Performance: Non-Happening After Ad Reinhardt by Pierre Leguillon, with Lynn Zelevansky
American artist Ad Reinhardt was best known for his black monochrome paintings, his devotion to abstract art, and his influence on conceptual artists of the 1970s. However, little is known about his archive of 10,000 photographic slides, currently housed at the Ad Reinhardt Foundation in New York. While traveling abroad, Reinhardt photographed many overlooked details of art and architecture, creating series of slides to be shown in silent, rapid succession, visually linking art historical images and imagery across time and place. Inspired by Reinhardt’s slideshows, artist Pierre Leguillon will create a similar experience using 350 slides from Reinhardt’s archive. Carnegie Museum of Art Director Lynn Zelevansky will then join Leguillon in a discussion about Reinhardt’s artwork.
