Nicholas Muellner is an artist whose work lies at the intersection of photography and writing. At this slide presentation, Muellner presents images and narratives from his travels around Pittsburgh. During his one-week residency, Muellner revisited distantly remembered places from childhood trips, as well as new locales assigned by a range of "foreign correspondents"—friends, relatives and strangers who have passed through Pittsburgh, in fact or imagination. Far from being “documentary” in nature, Muellner’s work finds ways to address the relationship between photography and experience to evoke a distinctive sense of place.
The Sandbox: Time & Place is third in a series of events centered on six different photobook themes.Registration is recommended as space is limited.
This event is part of the Hillman Photography Initiative, an incubator for innovative thinking about the photographic image. To join the conversation visit nowseethis.org.
