Larry Clark is widely known for his provocative 1995 film Kids. Fifteen years before he gained notoriety with moving pictures, he had explored the same topics of teenage drugs and violence in black-and-white still photographs. Published as the book Tulsa, Clark's highly charged, groundbreaking images cut through the stereotype that these issues were purely inner-city problems of the African American community. Clark's subjects were his Caucasian friends from around Tulsa, Oklahoma.
