Duane Michals: Storyteller and Collector
November 7–February 15
Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 2:00-3:00 p.m.
Delve into the work of groundbreaking photographer Duane Michals in Storyteller: The Photographs of Duane Michals. Born in 1932 and raised near Pittsburgh in a steelworker family, Michals has been a pioneer since the 1960s when he broke away from established traditions of photography. Rather than respecting the primacy of the photographic print, Michals added handwritten messages and poems to the paper surface. Instead of accepting the widely recognized dominance of a powerful single image, Michals created sequences of multiple images to convey visual stories.
Storyteller: The Photographs of Duane Michals is situated steps away from Duane Michals: Collector, an exhibition that provides a rare chance to encounter the eclectic collection the acclaimed photographer hangs in his home.
