five aluminum figures of children on this table centerpiece symbolize
prosperity. In 1858, the centerpiece was given to Emperor Napoleon III by
the French silversmith Charles Christofle to celebrate the help and
encouragement the Emperor "has brought to the dedicated work of the
learned Henri Sainte-Claire Deville in the making of aluminum." |
