Elaborate aluminum jewelry, particularly bracelets and brooches, were produced as luxury items during the late 1850s and early 1860s by notable Parisian jewelers. At this time, aluminum was always combined with other, often more expensive, materials, such as gold or gemstones. These objects required tremendous time and skilled workmanship. For example, aluminum and gold could not be joined by soldering, but required riveting as in the case of this bracelet.
