Between
1941 and 1946, R. Buckminster Fuller modified the original design for his
Dymaxion House to incorporate newly developed aluminum alloys with
increased strength-to-weight ratios. After the war, conditions were ripe
for mass production of Fuller’s design. Vast aluminum resources and
idled aircraft workers stood ready to meet the urgent need for low-cost
housing. Unfortunately, disagreements killed the project by 1947 and only
prototypes like this were built. |
