(Australian, b. 1963)
Marc Newson is one of a new generation of designers who make everything from furniture to cars, bikes, and household items, such as bottle openers and dish drainers. He studied jewelry and silversmithing at art school because, he said, it taught him how to build stuff. It also instilled a rigorous attention to technique and detail, as seen in the riveted sheet aluminum of the Lockheed Lounge.
