(French, 1860-1945)
While he did not use aluminum extensively in his work, René Lalique, the noted jeweler and designer, chose aluminum for its lightweight when designing this 1899 tiara for a theater production. In the 1920s he used lacquered aluminum instead of glass for cosmetics boxes because it was less costly. René Lalique’s carefully considered choice for a few pieces paved the way for the extensive use of aluminum in both the theater and packaging.
