Following the casting and ingot stages, aluminum can be forced through a shaped opening in a steel die. The metal emerges elongated with the cross-sectional profile of the die opening. Because of aluminum’s extreme malleability and resistance to cracking, it can take almost any die shape and thickness. Extruding minimizes the joining of multiple pieces, resulting in stronger and more intricate shapes. |
