Cup-like shapes can be formed through the deep-drawing method—the can is the most recognizable example. The single-action method uses a flat sheet placed over a stationary impression or opening. A ram punches the aluminum sheet into the form. In the double-action method, two rams move simultaneously in opposition: one pushes the sheet down into the die forming the interior, the other pushes the sheet upward forming the exterior.
