This electrochemical process allows aluminum to "grow" a layer of oxide thirty percent thicker than the original surface. The result is a more durable surface second only in hardness to a diamond. The oxide is also porous until sealed, which means it can accept dyes to produce colorful surfaces. Once sealed the surface is resilient and easy to maintain.
