The designs and theoretical writing of Viennese architect Otto Wagner inspired an architectural climate receptive to new materials and techniques, as well as new ways of thinking about architecture in the years following World War I. Aluminum was key to the visionary work of R. Buckminster Fuller who advocated a utopian architecture based on technological efficiency, conservation of resources, and an industrially produced house priced by the pound.
