Aluminum is not as reflective as silver, but the latter is cost prohibitive in lighting for the everyday world. Between the two world wars, aluminum was used extensively in domestic lighting. It was not only a practical choice considering aluminum’s reflectiveness, but the metal was ideally suited to express an aesthetic that celebrated the modern―the new world just around the corner.
