Before 1920, aluminum was used extensively in the kitchen, particularly for kettles and pots and pans. During the next two decades, it invaded the rest of the house as lifestyles changed and an increased informality became the norm. In the United States, the designs of Russel Wright were unequivocally modern and transformed aluminum objects, such as the spherical bun warmer, into icons of modernity essential for the up-to-date and well-appointed household.
