In the 1980s, Environmental issues became increasingly important in product design with "green design’ and "design for disassembly" becoming established terms. Aluminum’s recyclability is a real environmental plus, although the economics and ethics of recycling are extremely complex. The decades of the 1980s and ’90s also saw aluminum’s centenary as a commercially viable industrial material; designers had a well-established history of the material to draw on for new products and designs.
