The objects conservation laboratory was built in
1991 in an area adjoining the paintings conservation laboratory.
The lab is equipped with a fume hood, a deionized water system,
portable fume extractors, daylight adjusted lighting, built-in
cabinetry, powder-coated cabinets for storage of objects, an area
for photo-documentation of three-dimensional objects, and a surgical
binocular microscope.
In the objects laboratory, the conservator treats
and maintains objects from the permanent collection, including
furniture, sculpture, painted objects, metal objects, architectural
models and fragments, glass, ceramics, plaster, and organics such
as ivory and plastic objects. Objects from both Carnegie Museum
of Art and The Andy Warhol Museum are cared for in this laboratory.
