Carnegie Museum of Art appoints Group and Community Outreach Liaison Specialist

March 27, 2008

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania… Carnegie Museum of Art has hired Cecile Shellman as group and community outreach liaison specialist to implement audience development initiatives. This role encompasses outreach efforts, collaborations, and group sales, with a special focus on ethnic and community groups and under-represented and underserved audiences.

“Cecile has a tremendous background in art history and interpretation in museum settings,” said Kitty Julian, the museum’s director of marketing. “She also has a very strong network in Pittsburgh, particularly in the African American community. We are thrilled to have Cecile leading our efforts to welcome new and underserved audiences to experience and enjoy our collections and exhibitions.”

Prior to joining Carnegie Museum of Art, Shellman worked as director of education and public programs at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture in Pittsburgh. In this role, she worked to establish relationships with schools by developing education outreach programs. She also has considerable experience in reaching new audiences through different marketing media.

Shellman received a B.F.A from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and has a graduate certificate in museum studies from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
