Scheduling and Guidelines for Museum Visits

SCHEDULING VISITS
To make the most of your visits to CI:99/00, please schedule them with the Carnegie Museum of Art’s Group Visits Office as early as possible. This will allow you to plan your visits for the dates and times that are best for you. School tours of the exhibition are available Tuesday through Friday, with starting times between 10:10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. We request that all groups call at least one month in advance, but even earlier is better as the number of students permitted in the exhibition at a single time is limited. When you call to schedule, please be prepared with the following information:

• Date and time preferences
• School name, address, phone number
• Teacher name and home phone number
• Group size
• Grade level
• Any special needs to optimize students’ experience
• Tour focus; please mention any of the CI:99/00 lesson plans that you are using

You will receive confirmation and prepayment information by mail within two weeks after your visit/s are scheduled.

Due to the size and nature of the exhibition, self-guided visits are strongly discouraged. All groups visiting the exhibition are encouraged to do so with a museum docent. Docents can provide a guided interactive tour of the exhibition based upon your specific interests. If you would like your students to explore the exhibition for themselves, docents can accompany small groups of students and assist them informally by directing them to specific works, guiding their investigation, and by answering questions that arise.

There are many types of visits that you can schedule; the museum will work with you to accommodate your objectives. Approximately two weeks prior to your first visit, you will be contacted by a member of the docent staff to discuss your tour/s and develop a plan that best suits your interests. Remember that the exhibition is large and that multiple visits are necessary to explore it in full. Discussions regarding your specific interests will help us to select the artworks that are most appropriate.

Student Fees
One visit: $3.50/student
Two visits: $6.00/student
Three visits: $9.00/student
Four visits: $12.00/student
For these rates, all visits must be scheduled at the same time.

MUSEUM VISIT GUIDELINES
Group Organization
• Unless other arrangements are made, visiting school groups are divided into smaller groups of  approximately ten students. One museum docent is assigned to each of the smaller groups.
• Please have your students divided into these smaller groups prior to your arrival at the museum.
• The museum requires that students wear legible nametags.

Chaperones
• One adult chaperone is required for every ten middle and high school students visiting the museum.
• Every required chaperone is admitted free.
• Chaperones must accompany their group at all times and are responsible for maintaining order and enforcing museum rules and behavioral expectations.

Museum Behavior
• Unless designated as a touchable exhibit, artwork is not to be touched. Museum visitors are asked to remain at least eighteen inches away from artwork.
• Gum chewing, smoking, food and drink are not allowed in the galleries.
• Large bags, backpacks and umbrellas must be checked in the coat-check room off of the museum lobby before entering the galleries.
• Groups are asked to refrain from excessive noise or other behavior that might inhibit the enjoyment of other visitors.

Arrival and Check-In
• Visitors to CI:99/00 are asked to use the Museum of Art entrance at the corner of Craig Street and Forbes Avenue and not the Museum of Natural History entrance.
• The Museum of Art entrance opens at 10:00 a.m.
• Please arrive early to allow your group sufficient time to check bags, coats, lunches, etc. and to use the restroom prior to the tour starting time.
• Upon arrival, the group leader must check-in at the Admissions Desk next to the Museum of Art Store.
