Acting Out Art July 21–25, 9:00–3:00 p.m.
Get into character as you "Act Out Art" in a play inspired by artworks in the museum. Spend half the day with a drama teacher learning and practicing acting techniques and the other half with an art teacher designing scenery and creating costumes and props. Invite your family and friends to see you in the spotlight in a grand finale performance at the end of the week. Ages 8–10 and Ages 11–13
Art Olympics Aug. 11–15, 9:00–3:00 p.m.
Become an art athlete just in time for the 2008 Summer Olympics! Test your endurance in this art pentathlon, as you draw, paint, print, sculpt, and collage. Team up in art relays and make your own Art Olympics medals. Create a clay figure of an athlete in action inspired by athletes in art–swimmers, archers, and even a discus thrower–in the museum's paintings and sculptures. Ages 8–10 (full-day)
City Slickers June 16–20, 9:00–3:00 p.m. June 23–27, 9:00–3:00 p.m.
Learn about cities by exploring your own–Pittsburgh! Set off on an all-day tour guided by staff from Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation, Carnegie Mellon's School of Architecture, and the museum. Then construct your own "corner of town." Work in groups to develop site plans, lay out streets, and decide what kind of buildings and activities go together. Combine three-dimensional models for a complete city design. Share ideas with local architects, architecture students, and curators from the Heinz Architectural Center. Ages 8–10 and Ages 11–13 (full-day)
Dance Your "Art" Out Aug. 4–8, 9:00–3:00 p.m.
Five, six, seven, eight! Get ready to dance your "art" out. Have fun stepping, stomping, twirling, and jumping your way to a performance for your family and friends on Friday. Spend half the day with a dance teacher learning the moves, and the other half with an art teacher creating some awesome costumes and spectacular scenery to set the stage for your artful performance. Drawing and Painting My Masterpiece July 7–11, 9:00–3:00 p.m. July 14–18, 9:00–3:00 p.m.
Capture what you see in sketches made inside and outside the museum. Experiment with chalk and oil pastel drawings that are works of art on their own. Discover how to draw three-dimensional forms as a basis for realistic painting. Explore abstract and expressive approaches, too. Try your hand with brushstroke and color mixing in tempera paint. Choose your favorite technique to make your own masterpiece, complete with a fantastic frame. Ages 8–10 and Ages 11–13

Design a house limited only by your imagination! Get inspired by architectural drawings, models, and works of art in the galleries that represent houses from around the world and throughout history. Use scale and measurement to create floor plans, elevations, and sections. Build a model representing the house of your dreams. Ages 8–10 and Ages 11–13
Everyday Art & Architecture Aug. 4–8, 9:00–3:00 p.m.
Art and architecture are all around you! Design an urban plaza surrounded by buildings and filled with art. Explore how art can bring architecture to life through murals, sculptures, and multi-media spaces. Experience how art and architecture make a difference in your everyday life! Ages 11–13
Fabulous Fiber Art Aug. 11–15, 9:00–3:00 p.m.
Explore some of the materials and techniques used in fiber art for functional and artistic purposes. Get into line, color, texture, and pattern as you screen print, embellish, and paint on fabric. Redesign some old favorites from your own wardrobe with recycled materials. Get inspired by portraits of fashionably dressed men and women from other time periods.

Learn to think "3D" in this sculpture excursion that takes you in and out of the museum, back in time, and around the world. Explore realistic, symbolic, and expressive sculptures of human figures, abstract forms, or fantastical creatures to broaden your view of the third dimension. Learn to translate your ideas from sketches into three-dimensional forms–in clay, wire, plaster, or paper-mache. Make your own creative choices about structure, texture, materials, balance, mass, and space. Ages 11–13
Hidden Math July 14–18, 9:00–3:00 p.m.
Math is hiding everywhere in an art museum. You'll find patterns in paintings and on the floors; you'll even find math as you walk through the door! Counting and adding are just a start to designing buildings and creating art. Great for the math-phobic and math-lover alike!

Museum Makeover Aug. 11–15, 9:00–3:00 p.m.
You get to be the museum expert. Explore the museum's art, galleries, and architecture, inside and out. Then come up with changes to make the museum all your own. What would you collect and show? How would you arrange the galleries? Transform the museum through your ideas, drawings, and model of the interior and exterior. Don't stop there; write your own labels that tell all about the art to your "visitors." Ages 8–10
Skyscrapers June 30–July 3, 9:00–3:00 p.m.
How do buildings stand up? Learn about the technology of skyscrapers and build a structure more than eight feet high! Sketch the skyscrapers you see in paintings of skylines and in architects' drawings. Design a skyscraper and show us what it looks like with your own drawings and floor plans. Ages 8–10
Time Travel June 23–27, 9:00–3:00 p.m.
Have you ever wished you could go back in time? Design and build a time machine that takes you on a blast to the past or forward into the future. See art from ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, China, and India on your journey. Then fast forward to the Middle Ages or historic Pittsburgh. Make sketches along the way that you can transform into paintings or sculpture when you return to the present. Create a mixed-media time capsule of your favorite things to tell people in the future all about your moment in time. Ages 8–10

Find out what's new in the art world, as you explore the 2008 Carnegie International exhibition. See the art of today being created by 40 artists from all over the globe.
